Last Error (58021): Error checking out a file of the document. Document is already checked out.

My AecoSim crashed whilst trying to check a file in on projectwise and now when I try and open a file through AecoSim (which is on PW) I get the error:

"Last Error (58021): Error checking out a file of the document #Documentname#. Document is already checked out."

I have nothing checked out.

I can open the file read only or if I simply double click the file directly in projectwise (however this causes different errors)

Any ideas?

Version All Docs with Corresponding References

Seems like a no brainer but as far as I know, it's not possible. Our Bentley rep has confirmed.

Example Objective

We are working on a issued for construction (IFC) submission. The current version (previous submission) is issued for tender (IFT).

I want to version all the project docs from IFT to IFC leaving the IFT files referencing the IFT references.

Problem

a) When I select all the docs and select "new" > "version", all the read only IFT files are referencing the active IFC files.

b) If I select an individual file and select "set" > "show references" then select all resulting docs and create a new version, the IFT file is referencing the IFT references as expected. However, not only do I have to do this numerous times for the project but I also have to use "set" > "manage references" and point all the remaining IFT files to IFT references if they're currently pointing to IFC references prior to versioning the remaining files.

Solution

Provide an option in the create new version dialog box to A) keep reference versions with the current version or B) update reference version to the active version.

PW Local Working Directory and DFARS 252.204-7012 and NIST SP 800-171 Requirements

Our current local working directory is set up so all users have a common name associated with their working directory.  It is set up outside of their User Profiles.  It is configured to  "Leave local copy on Check In".

As we move forward with implementing the above Federal Regs on Cyber security, our plans include encrypting all  employees hard drives.  However we have an internal disagreement  about how to implement storage isolation requirements in regards to a user's local working directory.  I thought encrypting all employees' hard drive would satisfy the storage isolation requirements for the local working directory.

Options considered include configuring  a user's local working directory so that PW does not leave a local copy on Check In.  However, that will significantly affect the performance in PW as delta file transfer would no longer be applicable.

We also are  considering  moving the users local working directory to  inside of their User Profile.  If we do this,  we would no longer have a common name associated with a user's working directory. That would prevent certain design tools not integrated with PW from working inside of PW.    Any design application that creates or links external files that are internally configured to point to where the main file is location would no longer work inside of PW.  Having a "common" path allowed these design application to work inside of PW, no matter who created the linked files.

I'm hoping to get an understanding how  other organizations are  addressing the Federal  "storage isolation" requirements as it pertains to the PW local working directory?     Are you limiting access to a workstation so that only the employee assigned to the PC has authorization to use it?

Responses and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

PW Explorer Update Server Copy error

We have a co-worker that has a Word document checked out, he has made important updates to this document so he "updates Server Copy" a few times, his Word Document crashes and he goes to PW explorer but the file is not updated, the audit trail shows action item "Update server Copy; File not changed" he is now in panic mode because he felt he could rely on the "Update Server Copy" command.

Using PW Explorer 10.00.01.67

Anybody ever deal with this issue?

ProjectWise and Civil3d

We seem to have an issue with Civil3D and various versions of ProjectWise. The issue is that the Nest Depth is being changed to 99. We have a Bentley provided script that changes the nest depth back to 5, however, when this script runs, the process stops other ongoing user actions until the script completes. It was stated that the issue is resolved in the 10.00.01.67 build of ProjectWise but the problem persists. Now we are told that the issue is fixed better in the 10.00.02.265 build, but we have machines that are running this build and the problem persists. Can someone explain what is going on, and the ultimate resolution to this problem?

Full text Indexing of more than 1 Million Files in same datasource failed PJW SS4 590

Hi,

On one of my biggest datasource we have more than 1 Million Files,

With full text indexation ,  Pjw create text files with guid of the document on folders (one by datasource) which then are process by microsoft search server

FTR extraction seems to be done in two pass : one (about 2Kb result) for only some metadata as the filename, etc ... and on the second pass the result file grows up with the extraction of the text of the document.

On this big datasource the first pass semms to be ok, i can find a 2 kb file for each of my word documents for example.

But the second pass seems to never hapend so i haven't the full text indexation of my files.

It's not about the files thereselves, full text Indexation on some of the same office / cad files on a smaller datasource works fine.

So, is there a limitation with the number of files which can be processed ?

FYI this datasource has been upgraded from a projectwise SS3 Datasource

Using  :

- PJW Explorer SS4 590 ou connect

- Integration Server PJW SS4 590 (cluster of two) on Windows 2012 Server

- Full text Indexation done by a third integration /indexing server PJW SS4 590 using MS Search Server on windows 2012 Server

IDEA: Globally Edit Project Saved Searches

Saved Searches are one of the most powerful features in ProjectWise for our users and administrators.  Project-specific Saved Searches give us the power the Saved Search limited to the content of a single project.

We have six different project templates, each one including project-specific Saved Searches as shown in the graphic below.  Some project templates use some or all of the same Saved Searches.  When we create a new project, the Saved Searches are automatically included.  We now have over 800 projects.

Over time, we find that we may need to edit a Saved Search, and have that edit reflected in every project where it is used.  My suggestion is for ProjectWise to include at least one of the following:

  • Edit one or more Saved Searches in a project template, and have those changes updated in all projects where the template was used.
  • Edit a single Saved Search by name, and have ProjectWise update all projects and project templates where it is used.

With this ability, we will be able to globally update and add critical Saved Searches as conditions change.

ProjectWise managed workspace downloading too many files

Hi All,

Here is the problem when opening a simple 3D model file:

  • No references attached
  • Opening with MicroStation V8i using a managed workspace. The application used has no impact on the result. It does the same thing with OpenPlant Modeler.
  • Folder has 84 documents and many of them have a lot of versions.

What happens

  • All files from the folder, including all versions of all the files, are downloaded. Even if they have nothing to do with the model being opened.
  • The total number of files downloaded is about 2900 files.
  • It takes a very long time to open the model.

Has anyone seen something like this? Would you have some suggestions how to debug this?

Questions:

  • Why does it download all the files from the folder?
  • Why does it download all the revisions of all the files?

Using

  • ProjectWise Explorer 08.11.11.590
  • ProjectWise Integration Server 08.11.11.605

Projectwise Advanced Revit Integration Freezing Revit

We have been testing the new advanced Revit integration and were very impressed with the intial results.

However, we are finding that on some machines Revit is crashing after installing the plugin and today I have had another strange encounter.

We had set up a project on our Singapore server and when accessing that from Melbourne it was freezing Revit when i tried to access the PWIM XML file.

ie if i right clicked on a folder to see the properties the whole Revit environment froze.

Is there a limit or latency issue causing this? Any suggestion I can look at to test.

Cheers

Chris

Hi

I'm looking for a definitive answer if PW DI CONNECT U2.2 supports BTS v1.0 (v00.00.01.130)? The compatibility matrix says no, the BTS v1.0 readme says yes for PW DI CONNECT U1, and the PW CONNECT U2.2 readme doesn't say :-)

Thanks and take care,

IDEA: Query for Refs Outside of Project

$

Our datasources have a Project Property called “DWG NO” which is the same thing as a Project Number in most companies.   Our policy is that each PW project has a unique “DWG NO”, and that drawing sheet documents should NOT reference documents from outside the PW project.

REQUEST: Create a way to specify a search that lists master documents whose references contain one or more documents that are NOT located in the same PW project as the master document.  This way, we can create saved searches that allow our users to check for discrepancies in their projects.

Currently, I cannot write this search using the Design Search Dialog.   In the interim, I use a back-door approach of externally accessing and linking PW database tables in MS Access, creating queries, and generating reports like this:

Note: Two drawing sheets in project 02-g-0101 are referencing files from project JO-g-1214.

Custom SQL non clustered indexes

Is this true? From our database team ...  Our DBAs feel we no longer need to ask Bentley’s approval to create non-clustered indexes. They just need to inform the PW Administrators that they are creating it, after having tested it in the environments. Index will be tested on the Alpha and Beta server to validate issues are addressed with no ill side effects. Per the Bentley prescriptive guidance, these are pre-approved changes. This information is both from conversations with Bentley and based on experience with these indexes.

ProjectWise - No datasources

Greetings,

I have a PC on my domain for which no datasources show.

Interestingly, not even the "ProjectWise Explorer Datasources" header displays up top:

I've tried various network config settings. I've also tried a repair. And when that didn't do it? An uninstall followed by a reboot, install, and another reboot.

This is the 1.67 client on Windows 7 Pro.

Thanks for any information!

Select statement subqueries in case Expression Help

Hi  All,

I try to implement the select value list using this SQL expression:

Select case

When exist (Select distinct <Field01>, len (<Field01>) FROM <lk_Table>  ORDER BY len (<Field01>) , <Field01> )

Else

(Select distinct <Field01>, len (<Field01>), <FilterID>  FROM <lk_Table>   where <Filter_ID>  = '$EDIT#Filter_ID$' ORDER BY len (<Field01>) , <Field01> )

End

The outcome is empty but each subquery works fine.

Any thoughts on how to achieve this?

Advanced Creation Wizard- Document Name editable

Hi all,

We are currently in the process of rolling out our BIM common data environment and trying to regulate the improper naming conventions that most PW users in our company adopt.

A major setback is that while users are required to fill in the dif. codes (project-zone-types etc.) when creating a new file using the Advanced Creation Wizard, they still have the option to edit the New Document Name in the the Document Properties stage of the Creation Wizard.

I was wandering whether there is a way to restrict this feature?

Thanks

ACAD Viewport Resizing/Rescaling and moving when opened from ProjectWise

$

When using ProjectWise Connect/V8i has anyone come across the following?

You open and check out a DWG with ACAD 14, 16 or 18 and the Viewport in paper space is resized to say 2" x 2" instead of 24" x 36" and placed in the lower left hand corner of the sheet. Also the scale is off, if you take the grips and resize the VP you cannot see you model space images.

If you do an export out of ProjectWise open and save the dwg, then import it back in it fixes this. But as we all know that's a lot of messing around. This has to be done as soon as you open the affected DWG and close it without saving. If you save game over.

Any Ideas?
