PW CONNECT - Inroads SS2 Application Menu Not Loading, OK in PW SS4

Hello,

Using Managed Workspaces in PW CONNECT I get an unable to load gpkdgnat2.0 error window when starting InRoads SS2

MicroStation will still start, but there's no Application pulldown. I can load InRoads by browsing to the CivUstnAt.ma.

This works fine in PW SS4. If I remove the workspace in PW CONNECT, everything opens OK.

If I add just one config variable (say a project level config setting block setting MS_RFDIR) the problem returns.

Has anyone seen any similar problems using PW CONNECT?

In Excel you can use the "Get Data" functions to display information between different spreadsheets. Can this be done in ProjectWise V8i or Connect?

Failed to delete the storage

 I have been testing a script that among other things creates storage areas and projects. After testing I deleted the project but when I try to delete the storage area in PW Admin I get an error message stating "Failed to delete the storage". Is there a different sequence to removing those entities in ProjectWise? Nothing else in the database should be using the storage area I am trying to delete.

When I connect to a ProjectWise web server, I can download the document to my local machine. However, if I point my ProjectWise Connect client to that server, I cannot open the same file. I got an error of 32768. Can someone help me out what should I do

Okta for SSO with ProjectWise Connect

Hi Folks, I have two questions relating to single sign-on (SSO) to ProjectWise Connect.

1.  Is it possible, or practical, to manage user accounts for ProjectWise Connect via active directory, using Okta

2. In a scenario where a company has hundreds, or even thousands of external users wanting to login to ProjectWise Connect, is it possible, or practical to use another solution like Microsoft accounts instead of active directory?

Reference Manager, working in a BS1192 Environment

All BS1192 Users,,,

Is anyone else finding it challenging to keep CAD reference files, updated with the latest Version that the users can actually view (Shared State)

When progressing the document, the owning discipline are the only ones who can read/write to the document in the "In Progress" state.

Once it is "Shared" then the other disciplines can then reference it.

The Reference Management Tool works great for changing the attachment to the latest shared version, BUT it is not great, as when the owning discipline creates yet another "Shared" version the other users are not aware, as when they open the CAD file they do not get prompted about a newer "Shared" version.

I have filed an enhancement, but was just curious how others are working around this,  we are finding it very time consuming for the users to manually change to the latest "Shared" version.

Export to Excel tool

Why the heck does the Export to Excel tool not have the ability to select "this folder and sub-folders"? It makes you select each folder to export individually. That seems insane.

Anyway, if you're like me and needed to export a project of 17,957 folders and don't have enough time before you retire to click that many folders, here's a powershell script that asks how many folders to turn on and will then send the keystrokes to turn on a folder, expand sub-folders, and move down a folder. It repeats for however many cycles you indicated. I recommend entering a few 10's less than the actual number in the project and turn those on by hand. Start with a folder that is NOT yet turned on and make sure it is highlighted int he Export tool.

it's outputs a counter every 100 folders so you can keep track of where it's at. The pauses are to allow the GUI to keep up with the stream of keystrokes. You can shorten them if your computer can handle it. I wouldn't eliminate them.

Do NOT do anything while this is running. the keys are sent to the frontmost application and if focus changes from it to another application all the keys will be sent to the other application (I typically run this on a VM I then minimize while it processes)

More issues with Export to Excel

If the exporting path is longer than 250 characters the export to excel tool crashes. Instead it should, after logging the path is too long, continue exporting files.

Cannot open DGN files from projectwise - goes straight to 'Check In' Screen

I have an issue with opening dgn files from projectwise into microstation. Once the file finishes loading on microstation, the 'Check In' window pops up straight away, wanting me to check the file back into projectwise - such that I can't even use the file. This is only an issue when using Microstation. I've tried the following scenarios to pinpoint the problem:

 - Opening files such as dwg, pdf, xlsx files on other programs such as AutoCAD and Excel through projectwise: works

- Opening dgn files located on my local hard drive on Microstation directly: works

- Opening dwg files using Microstation through projectwise: does not work

- Opening dwg files located on my local hard drive on Microstation directly: works

- Opening dgn files using Microstation through projectwise: does not work

Running ProjectWise Explorer 10.00.2320 and Microstation V9.20.1.35. Have made sure the projectwise integration has been turned on.

Anyone had similar issues before and/or knows how to resolve this? Thanks

ProjectWise Renditions Creation Error

I have discovered problem during creation of renditions.

Error is affected only to few drawings, so I think it is not a problem with access permissions.

Deliverables Management Transmittal / RFI ID number ordering / use

Is there a way to have transmittal / RFI ID numbers in Deliverables Management grab the next un-issued number instead of assigning numbers automatically upon new transmittal / RFI creation?

We are hoping to use transmittal packages in DM to track upcoming / overdue for issue deliverables however, as issue dates can change the order of the issues will fluctuate.  If DM assigns an ID number when an issue package is created and cannot be changed then our numbers will end up being out of sequence (especially for on-the-fly packages that come up).  I also found that even if a transmittal draft is deleted, the number is not re-used.  The same would apply for RFI's.  Some of our clients mandate that transmittal numbers / RFI numbers are assigned in order of actual issue.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Inheritance changed when refreshed the prod database to test database

we just refreshed the test database with production (dropped the test db then export import the database schema)

one workflow in production does not have any inheritance on the folder but in test after refresh it shows inheritance from Global permissions.

Can someone suggest what is going on?

refreshing test from production

We are refreshing our database from production so the test environment is replica of production.

We export import the database and changed the storage path through PW admin in test environment. Is there anything else that we need to consider to have same projectwise as production?

we are seeing lot of workflow permissions are missing or they do not exist in production but shows up in test.

1) few security groups exist in test but they do not exist in production on folder level.

2) few exist in production but they were not copied to test

Do we need to do anything extra to copy the security otherwise why we have different groups between both environments?

Also, In test we are trying to remove the security group and it errors out "Cannot remove access control item"

Civil 3D Data Shortcut for Surface?

We have a user with an issue using a surface in Civil 3D 2015 with ProjectWise (PW). The user is running version 10.00.01.67 of PW Explorer. The PW system is hosted by another company and we do not know what version of PW is running on the server side. 

The user has an existing ground "ground1" and a data shortcut to it. There is a need to replace the existing ground data in "ground1" with that from an XML file generated from InRoads. The user imports the XML and it has a different surface name, say "newsurf". 

So the user now has two surfaces in the source DWG in Civil 3D: "ground1" and "newsurf". 

The user then deletes "ground1", and renames "newsurf" to "ground1". The user then saves the file, closes it, and checks it in. 

The next time a file is opened in Civil 3D that references this data shortcut, the shortcut is in the list, but the surface is empty. It's not syncing somehow? We checked the PW Data Shortcut Editor and it indicates that all Civil items should be found by Handle or Name, though we have no option to toggle it to anything else. We wanted to try searching by Name only, but have no ability to change it. 

The hope is that we can avoid re-creating this data shortcut, as a lot of people are using it. It's the last-ditch, Hail Mary option. If there is another solution someone is aware of, please advise...

How to add dialog box to Rollback version tool to confirm or cancel it's use.

We have created a document with A, B and C versions in which C is the latest version.

But unknowingly we used rollback option because of that C version was rolled back.

Can we add dialog box to the Rollback version tool inorder to confirm or cancel it's use instead of loosing the file when clicked accidently.

Someone please suggest solution to this?

Using URN Link on first revision of Document

ProjectWise Version 08.11.11.584

When utilising URN links which are supposed to be version specific, using on a first revision of an item enables a URN which follows the most recent version of the document and does not stay with the version it was intended for.

Scenario 1:
So if i have 'Design Model-P01.1' and this version is the first creation of this document, i create a URN link for this,
When i issue this as -P01 the URN link is fine and links to this,
When i revise this item to -P02.1, the same URN link links to this new P02.1 version.

Scenario 2:
If i use URN on a document that is not the first version, so its Design Model P03.1,
When i issue this as -P03 the URN link is fine and links to this,
When i revise this item to -P04.1, the URN link still links to P03 version.

Scenarios 2 i believe is correct. How do i get around Scenario 1?

Raster Images

I have multiple users complaining about raster images not displaying consistently while using ProjectWise.  There is no issue with the initial attachment.  It is when they open the file for the second, third, etc. time that the image will not display.  The link is not broken & the image border still exists, but the image itself does not show up.  Thoughts?

URL vs URN in Office Links?

Can someone help me understand the difference, and possibly which I should be using?

The way I understand it, both links point to the same document, but the URN contains ProjectWise data, so that if the file gets moved, the link can still find it, while the URL is more of a static link.
Is that correct?

I'm setting up a QC-QA tracking spreadsheet so that we can document an audit trail of our markups. I'd like to be able to link to the markup document in question.
In the past, I would just click the path/name at the top of the PW Explorer and just paste that (Ctrl+V) into my document. Quick and dirty...As I try to formalize this procedure, I'd like to know if there's a better way to create links to PW files.

In addition to figuring out which link I want to past, is there a special procedure to paste that link? I saw an old thread here that involved Ctrl+K...I want this as easy as possible because the people most likely to use this spreadsheet most often are the less technically savvy managers.
