Not sure if this is the right forum for this question. There seems to be so many flavours of PW these days.
I ran across this interesting vid that shows a BIM outsourcing firm using Maximo/YouBIM. EngWorks seems to already use Bentley products. And I understand that Crossrail uses Maximo in conjunction with Bentley's Crossrail Asset Painter. Is there a flavour of PW that integrates a FM database like YouBIM/Maximo?
The workflow is primarily post-completion, but I am struck by how similar it is to what we are doing with the contractor currently on site, design-wise.
1. Workorder retrieval.
2. Finding where the component or work area is located using a 3d model.
3. Select component/asset and retrieve product info.
4. Capture/input commissioning data. Find associated components via system linkages, to understand how to isolate the component to be worked on.
5. Section model to understand it.
6. Generate walkthroughs for staff. Compile links to product training material for the component.
7. Generate another Work Order, arising from with the current one.
8. Mobile device / web browser access.
On site, the main contractor has bypassed the use of multiple sub-contractors modeling the MEP package. Having one platform does seem to have some legs to it as an approach. This would help break down the liability issues, and the avoid the double modeling that would be required when the consultants can not update the model because they don't 'own' it.
Having one firm modeling would also ensure that the modeling team would be co-located in one place, something that has huge productivity and communicative advantages, and common in the infrastructure sector. The one-stop shop BIM modeler would also be the advantage of not having significant portions of the team repeatedly learning new software and procedures, which will have a significant overheads the larger and complex the project which have in-house automation that will have to be adapted. I can see Tier-1 UK contractors like Skanska and LOR working more like this as they already have in-house MEP contractors. Large Owner-Operators like London Underground etc might also find this kind of consolidated in-house client-led BIM/CDE approach beneficial for small to medium-sized jobs.
As mentioned, there would also be a lot of spill-over benefits for the deisgn stages via say Issues Resolution Service(s) or AssetWise? A lot of the base tools are already there...
1. Issue resolution Service as part of a PW dashboard. Something in Bentley Facilities Planner or PW Field Data Management? I suppose that PW would be replacing YouBIM when the client already has Maximo.
2. This already works in Mstn, Navigator etc. Browser-based with i.Model Hub?
3. Engineering Links are already available. An external database would be a slicker way to manage multiple links. Mstn has long provided external database links.
4. Additonal data capture would be something that PWFDM would be doing already. Component Indexing to capture dependencies in the MEP system? AXSYS?
5. Sectioning is standard Hypermodeling stuff.
6. LumenRT, Mstn and now Synchro has a lot of animation tools. Links: see above.
7. Not sure how IRS handles sub-issues or associated issue tracking or grouping.
8. Navigator CE and i.Model Hub?
